Cleantech nanofiltration for recycling used lubricating oil

MemPore has developed an advanced nanofiltration system for recovering valuable base oil from used lubricating oil.  The process is cleaner and more energy efficient than current recycling technologies while also having lower operating and capital costs.

Used oil is hazardous waste

Lead, arsenic, cadmium and chromium, chlorinated solvents and more. These physical and chemical impurities are toxic to humans, wildlife, and plants.

Most used oil is burned or dumped

Less than 10% of used lubricating oil is recycled. The rest is either burned or dumped. Burned oil pollutes the air and dumped oil pollutes soil and water.

Benefits of MemPore

  • MemPore’s technology recovers base oil from used lubricating oil such that this valuable resource can be re-used indefinitely.

  • 71% fewer greenhouse gas emissions than vacuum distillation and hydro treating.

  • 84% less energy consumption than vacuum distillation and hydro treating.

  • With the MemPore System’s small footprint, it can be used in close proximity to used oil collection points (e.g. garages, machine shops, fleets of vehicles, trains), lowering transportation costs and risk of toxic spills.
